Review: Bed Friend – A Rollercoaster Ride of Emotions

Bed Friend – Introduction

The Bed Friend series, which started airing on February 18th, 2023, consists of 10 episodes and tells the story of ‘Uea Anol’ and ‘King Kunakorn’. Uea, who works as a graphic designer in the marketing team. King, on the other hand, works for the same company as a programmer. Jade Jetanipatis, who is the best friend of Uea.

Plot

The story opens with Uea entering the office and being the centre of attention. Everyone in the office admires Uea’s beauty and cannot escape his charming aura. On the other hand, King is a charming and handsome playboy figure who always intends to get on Uea’s nerves.

One night, King found Uea at a bar waiting for someone, but little did he know how much he was in bad shape because of being cheated by his boyfriend, ‘Pok’ . The storyline started to get more interesting when we got to see glimpses of Uea’s mother’s relationship with him. The devastating relationship between him and his mother will take us back to reality. His being a homosexual made his mother hate him to guts. The toxic relationship was born out of denial and not non-acceptance of her own son.

Uea adjusting himself for her mother is like being patient with her, transferring money every now and then and using him only when he wanted to for her own benefit, which shows the devastation reality of real lgbtq people. In this series, not only do we encounter the beginning of the relationship between Uea and King, but we also discover the trauma of Uea. This series might be suitable for audiences who can endure the acts of sexual violence.

On the other hand, we discover the problem of Uea, who is always compared to his “perfect” brother, which makes him frustrated, but he still tries to please his parents by giving his best.

We see how these two contradictory characters handled each other and moved forward in their lives. The feelings King had for Uea but was unable to interpret ended up being a ‘friends with benefits relationship. But what happens when one starts to develop feelings for the other? Will they be able to move forward with their relationship, or will something change? This story also focuses on punishing the wrong, which will drastically change the life of Uea.

This series focuses on the story of Uea and the people around him. The character Jade is a comic relief character who is the best friend of Uea, which gives him the courage to fight back. He is the bravest character, and the acting of James, aka Uea, is marvelous, especially when it comes to expressing the feelings through his eyes or the transition of emotions on screen. The acting of Net, aka King, fitted the character quite well.

Even though at first the plot looks complicated, later it deals with the complicated situations in a realistic way, widening the depth of the story of Uea and King. The jealousy took and tension between them is so natural that will make the audience’s heart ache and flatter at the same time. In the quater of the episode we will discover how they handle the conflicted situations.

The cinematography:

When it comes to cinematography, I can’t argue more about it. In each and every episode, the cinematography of the Bed Friend series is just perfect and enchanting. From light scenes to low-light scenes, it’s perfectly handled. The colours are just naturally mixed with the emotions.

This series is an ongoing one. Only one episode is left to decide the outcome of their story. But this series is worth time and patience, so it’s a recommendation to give this a shot.
