My first experience with Chinese BL was The Untamed. It is a story about love and rebirth that goes beyond time and tide. Lan Wan Ji and Wei Wu Xian couldn’t be more different. The story is based on a famous fantasy web novel by Mo Dao Zu Shi.
It follows the main character, Wei Wu Xian, as he goes through life-changing events and betrayals. The family relationships between the characters are the most exciting thing about this show. It could be Wei Wu Xian’s sweet relationship with Jiang Yan Li, his older adopted sister. They trust and believe in each other. Or Lan Wangji’s respect for Lan Xi Chen, his older brother.
Even though everyone agrees that Wei Wu Xian went down the wrong path, Lan Wangji’s feelings never change. He keeps his word and backs Wei Wuxing with all his heart. Both Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo have the chemistry that can’t be denied, and it shows all the way through. The Untamed is a retelling of a classic story with beautiful music and characters who are just as beautiful.
3. Word of Honor
The leader of the assassin group The Window of Heaven, Zhou Zi Shu, has to go through a required leaving technique that gives him three years to live. So he hides his face and tries to spend the rest of his life wandering the martial arts world like a drunk.
Three months later, he meets the mysterious Wen Ke Xing, who notices Zhou Zi Shu’s face right away. The two become closer when they get involved in a plot about the Glazed Armor, a legendary key to a powerful armoury that is kept safe.
4. Winter Begonia
It is a story about a wealthy businessman and a Peking opera performer who meet because they love Peking opera.
In the 1930s, the story is about Shang Xi Rui, a Peking opera singer who moves to Beiping and becomes famous because of how good he is. The locals don’t like him as a foreigner, but he doesn’t give up on his dream of making Peking opera more popular. After seeing a performance for the first time, a wealthy businessman named Cheng Feng Tai is taken with the art he works hard to learn. He gets to know Shang Xi Rui and becomes a strong supporter of him.
Shang Xi Rui builds Shui Yun Lou and trains a new troupe with the help of Cheng Feng Tai. Finally, Shang Xi Rui and Cheng Feng Tai are moved to make sacrifices for their country when the Japanese army attacked Beiping in 1937, and patriotic men and women take arms to fight.
5. SCI Mystery
The tale of a fight to the death between good and evil. Some people try hard to avoid the darkness, while others welcome it with open arms. Xia Yao was born into a well-known and wealthy family. He used to be a player, but he has changed his ways. On the other hand, Yuan Zong used to be in the special forces. When he got out, he started a company to train bodyguards.
Yuan Ru, his little sister, falls for Xia Yao’s charms, but she can’t get through his walls. So she goes to her brother Yuan Zong to ask for help. Will what Yuan Ru wants to happen if these two men meet?
10. Till Death Tear Us Apart
Liu Yu Sheng’s family is very wealthy. However, after going to school abroad, he comes home to find that his other family members have stolen his inheritance.
